Getting around Hanoi
Metro helps for a couple of corridors, but the Old Quarter, the lake and the airport are all a car, bus or bike ride away.
Metro: Line 2A (Cat Linh–Ha Dong) and Line 3 (Nhon–Cau Giay)
Roughly 5:30 to 22:00, a few minutes to ten between trains. Single rides run from about 9,000 to 19,000 VND; a bank card taps through the gate.
The two lines don't connect, and neither reaches Hoan Kiem, the Old Quarter or the airport. The Nhon–Hanoi Station link is still being built.
City bus
Dense network, a few thousand dong a ride, and the 86 runs from the airport to the train station for a fraction of a taxi.
Slow in rush hour and the stops are hard to read without a map app.
Ride apps
- Grab and Be cover the whole city; a bike is the fastest way through the Old Quarter's narrow streets.
- Xanh SM is electric and has the most predictable fares of the three.
What a street-taxi meter should read
Flag drop around 20,000₫, then 15,000₫ a km. A short ride comes to roughly 60,000₫ at the least.
